Coronation Celebrations - Coronation Community Festival

Guildhall Road, Northampton Town Centre
Northampton will join towns and cities around the country in celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. As part of the big bank holiday weekend of Coronation Celebrations taking place across the county, Northampton Town Council will host a Community Festival in the heart of our town on Saturday 6th May on Guildhall Road.
To celebrate this momentous event, our residents are invited to come together with friends, family and the local community to mark this historic occasion and join us for the first of three days of national celebrations.
The schedule of activities will include live stage entertainment from community groups and local performers, children's activities and collaborative workshops, roaming entertainers and morris dancers, local street food stands and seating area as well as live coverage of the Coronation on big screens.

St Katherine's Gardens, Northampton Town Centre
As part of the Coronation Celebrations of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort in Northampton, Northampton Town Council, Northampton Bid and West Northamptonshire Council are partnering to improve St Katherine's Gardens for the Coronation 'Big Help Out' on Monday 8th May.
St Katherine's Gardens is a green space in the centre of Northampton that was once the site of the nineteenth century church of St Katherine. It provides a walkway between the Bus Station and Horsemarket, and is neighboured by businesses on College Street, St Katherine's Street and King Street. The aim is to improve the area to become a destination for local residents, town centre workers, and visitors to the town.

This month Wellingborough is hosting a walk open to all abilities, from 5k to 42k from Friday 12th May through to Sunday 14th May. This Walk, entitled the 'Waendel Walk', has been held for 42 years and attracts walkers from all over the world, as part of the International Walking Association.
Walks takes you through the beautiful countryside of Northamptonshire. Depending on the length of the walk you choose you can explore beautiful places such as Great Doddington, Irchester, Wilby, Wollaston, Little and Great Harrowden, Findon and many more…
In the evening there is a beer festival in the town and free entertainment provided at the Castle Theatre.

Northampton Town Council is working with Living Streets - the UK charity for everyday walking, to support Primary Schools in the local area to join the campaign.
To encourage children in healthy exercise and to reduce road congestion and air pollution in our town, NTC's Climate Change Forum is funding classroom packs for teachers, parents and pupils to get involved.

Oak Apple Day

An ancient ceremony of thanksgiving will take place at All Saints' Church on Monday, 29 May to commemorate Northampton's Oak Apple Day.
The ceremony will begin at 11:30am with a thanks giving service led by Father Oliver Coss at All Saints' Church. Shortly after midday, The Company of Pikemen and Musketeers, who are a ceremonial unit of the Honourable Artillery Company dressed in 17th century uniform, will parade from the Judges' Lodgings on St Giles' Square, down George Row and onto All Saints' Church piazza proceeded by A Company LNR, Army Cadet Force, Corps of Drums overseen by Lt Col Robert Blomfield of The Royal Anglian Regiment.
The Mayor will then place a wreath of oak leaves on the statue of Charles II, which stands on the church's portico followed by a drum and musket fire ceremonial performance which will be observed by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, Mr James Saunders Watson and the High Sheriff of Northamptonshire, Milan Shah.

Friday 24th February 2023 marked the one year anniversary since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian artists have curated an exhibition of paintings which portrays the stories and experiences of a war-torn country.
The debut display of the exhibition will be held at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery this Summer, in partnership with Northampton Town Council. Further details coming soon.
