Wall Games Project Funded By Northampton Town Council Grant Scheme Returns This Bank Holiday

The Wall Games project, founded by Art Curator, James Thompson, is the first project to take place that has been funded by the Northampton Town Council Community Grant scheme. The Wall Games project, returns to Northampton for the second year this Bank Holiday weekend, taking place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th August, in the Mayorhold Car Park, Emporium Way and surrounding areas.

Wall Games is an annual art project, in partnership with Northampton Town Council, West Northamptonshire Council, Alfreshco Paint Supplies, The Hope Centre, Layitdownnorth and DJ Mark Ski.

The project brings together groups of volunteer artists to create bright and colourful murals in Northampton. Local artists are given priority, whose key aims are to brighten up unloved underpasses, and walkways to increase community pride and reduce crime. All artists are encouraged to donate their artwork for sale on behalf of the Hope Centre to raise money for the homeless in the town.

Cllr. Jane Birch, Chair of the Grants Sub-Committee said, "Northampton town council want to play a key role in supporting community events, the Wall Games project is an annual art scheme that brings together groups of volunteer artists who create bright and colourful murals in underpasses and walkways. The addition of colour in drab areas is uplifting and has increased community pride and reduced crime. It is good to be able to show our support for this innovative and creative project".

The project will see over 100 artists coming together to create brightly coloured/large scale murals to update the current murals in the Mayorhold car park and Emporium Way. A large scale mural is to be painted on the side of Roadmender, which James Thompson will personally be undertaking shortly after the event.

Cllr. Ashraf, the Mayor of Northampton said, "It's great to be able to support a project that brings together Street Artists to paint forgotten areas of Northampton town centre".
