Armed Forces Day 2022: When is it and how will it be marked in West Northamptonshire?

This Saturday 25th June is Armed Forces Day. Northampton Town Council has teamed up with West Northamptonshire Council to organise the event in celebration of the ongoing contributions made by our Armed Forces communities.

Dignitaries including the Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, the Mayor of Northampton, the Vice-chair of West Northamptonshire Council and representatives from the RBL, will gather in front of the entrance to Sessions House on George Row, just before 11am to raise the Armed Forces Day flag. We then invite you to join our event on the Market Square until 4pm.

The event on the Market Square will see the return of our Armed Forces communities and charity stalls including The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes amongst others, with entertainment from the RAF Cadets band.

Councillor André González De Savage, Chairman of West Northamptonshire Council, said: "Armed Forces Day gives an opportunity to honour the invaluable work that our armed forces do both here in the UK and overseas. The Armed Forces Day flag is flying at each main council building in West Northamptonshire, to show just how proud we are of our military personnel, both past and present."

Cllr Dennis Meredith, the Mayor of Northampton who will be in attendance on the day said, "We are wholly supportive of this event that supports our Armed Forces and enables them to continue the charitable causes they carry out, not just in our community of Northampton but around the world".

Phillip York, Chairman of the Northampton Branch of the Royal British Legion, said, "On behalf of the Royal British Legion, we would like to advise that due to unforeseen circumstances this year, there will be no Military Parade celebrating Armed Forces Day for 2022.The Northampton Market Square event is however proceeding as normal and will include various stalls and entertainment throughout the day. As always, we encourage as many people as possible to join in support of our troops, to hear from our charities and enjoy the entertainment."
