Proclamation of new Sovereign to be read by Northampton Town Mayor
The Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Dennis Meredith will make the town declaration of the accession of His Majesty King Charles III on the steps of the Guildhall in Northampton on Sunday (11 September) at 2.30pm.
The reading will follow national proclamations as well as the County proclamation taking place at 1pm at All Saints Church on the same day.
Cllr Dennis Meredith said "It is an honour to be serving as Mayor and to undertake this great responsibility on behalf of the people of Northampton. I encourage the people of Northampton to come down to the Guildhall at 2.30pm and see this historic occasion".
Road closures will be in place on St Giles Square to ensure the event is safe and that there is room for spectators.
In recognition of the new Sovereign, flags will be flown at full mast from the time of the principal proclamation – 11 on 10th September – until the local proclamations take place at 1pm on Sunday, when they will return to half-mast as The Queen's mourning period continues.
