Northampton Town Council Pleased to Have Donated £1,000 to the Daisy Suite Appeal
Northampton Town Council are proud to have donated £1,000 from the Town Mayor Councillor Dennis Meredith and Councillor Jackie Fuchshuber's Councillor Community Fund, to Northamptonshire Heath Charity's Daisy Suite Appeal.
The cheque was presented on the 10th February at 11.00 am at the Gallery Public House in Southfields, staff have been instrumental in raising of funds for this new venture "The Daisy Suite". The Daisy Suite Appeal hopes to raise £150,000 to improve Northampton General Hospital's maternity bereavement facilities to ensure bereaved families have a dedicated space that offers privacy, away from the day unit and the wards.
Northampton Town Council provides each Councillor with £3,000 each financial year to donate to community groups and organisations' projects that they deem economically, socially or environmentally beneficial to their residents.
Both Councillor Meredith and Councillor Fuchshuber were made aware of the Daisy Suite Appeal through the Gallery Public House in Southfields who themselves have fundraised £4,100 following a bereavement within their own team's Manager, Karen Downes', family.
Karen said that "Recently staff, customers and myself at the Gallery Public House held a 24-hour bike ride in memory of my granddaughter L'taya Amelia who was born sleeping. The money was raised for a cuddle cot and furniture for the unit as we all know there is nothing more precious than time and we hope our fundraiser helps other and honour the memory of L'taya Amelia. Myself and the Gallery Public House are grateful for Northampton Town Council providing a £1,000 donation to help with the Daisy Suite Appeal."
The cuddle cot will enable bereaved parents to spend more time with their babies at hospital or at home.
Alison Mcculloch at Northamptonshire Health Charity stated "Northamptonshire Health Charity are proud to be supporting Northampton General Hospital with a fundraising appeal to enhance the current facilities that provide the emotional as well as practical care and support for families who experience the devastating loss of a baby. Each year the hospital cares for over 100 families who suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby. A safe space is provided that is protected for delivery and care whilst in hospital, having a dedicated space to continue this protection for follow up care for families, will further enhance the support we provide and make such a difference to these families, at what is an extremely distressing time."
Councillors Dennis Meredith and Jackie Fuchshuber are delighted to have donated £1,000 from their Community Grants Fund, to give grieving parents somewhere peaceful to mourn after the devastating loss of their babies and will assist local people at a time of great sadness and vulnerability.
