Changes in Ward Boundaries for Northampton Town Counci for 2025 election

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) conducted an electoral review of West Northamptonshire Council, which included changes to the parish electoral arrangements for Northampton Town Council.

Key changes to Northampton Town Council's parish electoral arrangements:

• The review was conducted to ensure that the newly established West Northamptonshire Council has the best electoral arrangements

• The existing parish wards for Northampton Town Council, which were based on the old district wards of Northampton Borough Council before it was abolished, were not retained

• New district wards were created in Northampton, and by law, the Northampton Town Council wards must reflect this new WNC warding pattern. This means that when WNC wards cut across parts of a parish, new parish wards must be created within each of those WNC wards.

• The commission considered retaining parish wards that were wholly within the new district wards. However, it was determined that doing this and creating parish wards that do not cross WNC ward boundaries would involve creating many new and some very small parish wards, which would also result in more parish wards than Northampton Town councillors. This was not considered to be the best approach, as the commission does not believe it should change the total number of parish or town councillors.

Northampton Town Council will now have 25 councillors (same as before) representing 13 wards (formally 21 wards)

The new parish wards for Northampton Town Council are:

Abington & Phippsville
Billing Aquadrome
Blackthorn & Rectory Farm
Briar Hill
Castle
Dallington Spencer
Headlands
Kingsley & Semilong
Moulton Leys
Parklands
Queens Park
Talavera
Weston Favell & Abington Vale

The names of the new parish wards reflect the new district ward names.

The LGBCE states that the changes to the Northampton Town Council parish electoral arrangements were made to ensure that parish wards do not cross district ward boundaries, as required by law, and reflect the new district warding pattern in the area. These changes also resulted in a reduction of the number of councillors and wards. The changes will come into force at the local elections in 2025.
